Setting conservation priorities in multi-actor systems

چکیده
Abstract Nature conservation is underresourced, requiring managers to prioritize where, when, and how spend limited funds. Prioritization methods identify the subset of actions that provide most benefit an actor's objective. However, spending decisions by actors are often misaligned with their objectives. Although this misalignment frequently attributed poor choices actors, we argue it can also be a byproduct working alongside other organizations. Using strategic analyses multi-actor systems in conservation, show interactions among multiple create between objectives individual why current uncoordinated prioritizations lead fewer achieved for actors. We draw three conclusions from our results. First, unsuitable metric evaluating spending, because may necessary achieve actors’ Second, prioritization cannot optimal (as they purport do), do not incorporate decisions. Third, practical steps taken move direction coordination thereby better

Setting Priorities for Regional Conservation Planning in the Mediterranean Sea
Spatial prioritization in conservation is required to direct limited resources to where actions are most urgently needed and most likely to produce effective conservation outcomes. In an effort to advance the protection of a highly threatened hotspot of marine biodiversity, the Mediterranean Sea, multiple spatial conservation plans have been developed in recent years. Here, we review and integr...
متن کاملSetting priorities for the library's systems office
While many libraries do some form of planning, few take the time to identify, review and establish priorities. The lack of a commitment to setting priorities leads libraries to operate in a manner that does not always reflect the needs of the organization and the people it serves. It can also lead to wasted time, energy and financial resources as the organization focuses its efforts on developm...
متن کاملCoordination Mechanisms in Multi-Actor Systems
In multi-actor systems, coordinated action is achieved by processes of mutual adjustment that can take the form of organizing, planning, and improvisation. A plan can be seen as a social construct, a relatively persistent socially shared unit of knowledge, reinforced in its existence by its daily use. In order to be able to understand multi-actor planning this chapter investigates the questions...

متن کاملDistribution patterns of Convolvulaceae in Iran: priorities for conservation
Assessing priorities is the most important action in conservation programs. Rudimentary, mapping of diversity, and distribution patterns have been used to set priorities on diverse scales. The distribution patterns of plant taxa, largely reflect an actual ecological niche. Convolvulaceae s.str exhibits cosmopolitan dispersal of diverse life forms and includes 50–60 genera comprising 1600–1700 s...
